Embracing La Dolce Vita:

Chuck and Donna's Joyful Fitness Journey with Pledge To Fitness®

Chuck and Donna Grehn are retired and dedicated to a life of healthy living, hiking around the world, and happiness. Married for almost 23 years, these two encompass a life of travel and wellness. Chuck, 69 years old, and his wife Donna, 64, exercise at the Pledge To Fitness Studio to stay healthy and agile in preparation for their next world adventure.

Their Fitness Goals and Pledge To Fitness® Philosophy

The couple’s expanding bucket list continually inspires their fitness journey. Both are healthy and active, so why join a health studio? “We joined to help muscle soreness and joint issues through sports massage therapy and we now strongly believe in Coach Andres’ (owner and trainer) philosophy,” they say. Andres says, “Their program is tailored to keep them strong, improving any weak points through strength training and proper movement dynamics. We also keep their endurance high through engaging cardiovascular training”. They were encouraged to add stretching into their daily routine which goes a long way to maintaining the mobility and strength they’ve built in their sessions. Exercise is not new for them, but the holistic approach adopted through Pledge To Fitness® has opened their minds to all the facets of fitness they need to tackle any adventure they choose.

A Fitness Journey Committed to Staying Limber and Fit

They have been consistently exercising their entire lives. Pledge To Fitness has helped them stay limber and keep fit for their trips. Their journey with the Pledge To Fitness® team began at their home with Andres coming to them. Now they both spend multiple days per week at the Bellaire fitness studio. Some days are geared towards weights, and some towards cardio. The couple emphasizes that individual training sessions are important to them, but they also love their joint sessions at the studio. It’s a fun way to maintain their fitness and spend some quality time with each other.

“One hour of hard exercise a day is more important than food to me.” It creates a powerful balance between discipline and enjoyment.

Eating Habits: Balance and Indulgences

When Chuck was asked about his eating habits, he replied, “One hour of hard exercise a day is more important than food to me.” It creates a powerful balance between discipline and enjoyment. The couple does not keep desserts or junk food at home, but Chuck did divulge that Donna loves her Fettuccine Alfredo. To this, Donna replied that with all their training and hiking, sometimes they can splurge because they burn so many calories. Like when they expertly hiked the Canadian Rockies and Iceland. They surely earned a few nice dishes of local food with their efforts! It is about building a sustainable and healthy life.

Next Stop: The Dolomite Mountains in Italy

Where is this energetic couple off to next? They will be hiking the Dolomite Mountains in Italy. They continue to keep up a steady exercise and stretching routine in preparation for this next journey and also plan to hang glide while they are there. I suggested a high fettuccine alfredo intake, and both had a little laugh.

Guidelines for Older Adults Fitness: CDC Recommendations

How much exercise do you need to maintain a safe and healthy lifestyle as you get older? According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), persons 65 years or older need 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week of moderate-intensity activity. Or they need 75 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity such as hiking, jogging, or running. And at least 2 days a week of activities that strengthen muscles.

Going Above and Beyond: Extraordinary Fitness Achievements

Chuck and Donna knock those numbers out of the park. They work out 6 times a week: three times at the Pledge To Fitness Studio and the rest at home or at fun group fitness classes.

While Donna has always had a daily fitness regime, Chuck has built his discipline up over time. For the last few years it’s agreed they both need 1 hour a day to maintain a good quality of life for years to come. When needed, the team at Pledge To Fitness also provides nutrition coaching for healthy and easy tips to improve their food intake, and massage to help recovery and stress.

Inspiration for the Journey Ahead: Living La Dolce Vita

Training, massage, discipline in and out of the studio, and a good relationship with food. May others follow in your footsteps. Enjoy your journeys and keep living la dolce vita.
